Hyundai STARGAZER Is Finally Here And It’s More Than Just Another Family MPV.
Starting from RM99,800, Hyundai’s latest MPV brings a mix of family practicality, modern tech and a surprisingly bold design. Family MPVs don’t exactly have the reputation of being exciting. They’re practical, spacious and useful but exciting? Not always. Hyundai looks like it wants to change that with the new STARGAZER, which has officially arrived in Malaysia with three variants: Style, Prime and X.
Hyundai calls it a “WEhicle”, basically putting the focus on how families actually use their cars from school runs and daily errands to weekend road trips. And looking at what Hyundai has packed into it, this isn’t just about adding another seven-seater to the market. The STARGAZER’s cabin is designed to be flexible rather than simply spacious. There are useful touches such as a cargo floor box, seat-back table and multiple USB ports. The idea is simple: make it easier to live with when the car is being used every day.

The Style and Prime variants come with seven seats, while the STARGAZER X goes for a six-seat 2+2+2 configuration with captain chairs. The X also gets a floating centre console with a detachable tray, adding another bit of flexibility to the cabin.
From a tech perspective, Hyundai hasn’t gone completely overboard and that’s probably a good thing. Depending on the variant, the STARGAZER gets dual 10.25-inch displays, wireless charging and Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold. There’s also roof-mounted rear air-conditioning vents, which should be particularly useful when the car is packed with passengers.
The Prime variant gets Hyundai SmartSense with ADAS 2.0, including features such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist and Lane Following Assist. In other words, Hyundai isn’t just trying to make the STARGAZER comfortable. It’s also giving drivers some extra assistance during daily commutes and longer highway drives.
If the standard STARGAZER looks a little too sensible for your taste, the X variant turns up the visual drama. It gets SUV-inspired styling, with sportier front and rear bumpers, a rear spoiler, black Hyundai emblems and black gloss alloy wheels. Inside, the six captain seats, full leatherette upholstery and Shift-By-Wire transmission control give the X a more premium vibe. It’s still an MPV, but Hyundai clearly doesn’t want it to look like just another boxy family mover.

The entry-level STARGAZER Style comes with seven seats, LED headlamps with H-signature DRLs, an 8-inch multimedia player, a 4.2-inch TFT LCD instrument cluster and 16-inch alloy wheels. The Prime adds the bigger dual 10.25-inch displays, SmartSense ADAS 2.0 and six airbags. Meanwhile, the X takes the more premium and sporty route with its captain-seat configuration, leatherette seats and SUV-inspired exterior.
Hyundai is also throwing in several ownership incentives during the launch period. Customers can purchase a package that includes eight free after-sales service visits or four years of service, plus an RM1,000 All-Star Reward for existing Hyundai owners buying a new STARGAZER. There’s also a resale-value programme that guarantees a predetermined value when owners eventually upgrade to another Hyundai. The stated figures are 70% after three years, 60% after four years and 50% after five years, with mileage limits applying to each period.
The new STARGAZER feels like Hyundai’s attempt to make the traditional family MPV a little more interesting. You still get the things you’d expect. Plenty of seats, flexible space and family-friendly practicality. But Hyundai has added modern displays, charging, driver-assistance technology and a more futuristic design into the mix. With prices starting at RM99,800, the STARGAZER is certainly one to keep on the radar if you’re shopping for a family car and don’t want something that feels overly conventional.
And honestly, the STARGAZER X is the one I’d be most curious to spend some time with.
