POCO X8 Is Here! And This Phone Really Wants You to Forget About Your Charger

Let’s be honest. Battery anxiety is real. You leave home with 30% battery and suddenly every notification feels like a personal attack. That’s exactly the problem POCO is trying to solve with its new POCO X8, which is basically being positioned as the brand’s new endurance champion.

And the headline feature? A seriously chunky 8,340mAh battery. That’s a huge jump from the previous generation, 63.2% more capacity, according to POCO. More importantly, the company says the phone can deliver more than two days of battery life on a single charge. Two days. For anyone who spends hours scrolling, streaming, gaming, navigating and messaging, that sounds pretty appealing. The POCO X8 uses a silicon-carbon battery with 13% silicon content, giving it higher energy density while keeping that massive capacity. But POCO isn’t only talking about day-one battery life. The battery is designed to retain at least 80% of its capacity after 1,600 charging cycles, which POCO says is roughly equivalent to six years of regular use.

It has also gone through testing for extreme temperatures, mechanical stress and battery cycles, earning a TÜV SÜD 5-star Battery Performance Certification. And when you finally do run low, the 67W HyperCharge support should get you back up and running faster. There’s even 22.5W wired reverse charging, so your phone can double as a power bank when your earbuds or another device are running low. Pretty handy when you’re out and about.

The battery isn’t the only thing POCO has made bigger. The X8 comes with a 6.83-inch 1.5K ultra-bright display, giving you plenty of screen real estate for Netflix, TikTok, gaming or just endlessly scrolling through your feed. Brightness goes all the way up to 3,500 nits peak brightness across 25% of the screen, so the display should remain visible even when you’re using it outdoors under bright sunlight. POCO has also added TÜV Rheinland eye-care certifications, which should make those long screen sessions a little easier on your eyes.Because let’s face it, we’re probably going to spend way too much time staring at this thing anyway.

The POCO X8 takes a cleaner, more minimalist approach to its design, with sharp geometric lines, a sandblasted middle frame and a flat display with slim bezels. But what caught my attention more is the durability. The phone comes with IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K water and dust resistance, while the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.POCO also says the screen can survive drops from up to 3 metres under specific SGS testing conditions.

And then there’s something a little more fun: Underwater Mode. You can use it to capture photos and videos underwater, whether you’re messing around with friends or trying to snap a fish in an aquarium. Just remember, underwater Mode doesn’t magically make the phone suitable for diving or swimming everywhere. The official water-resistance conditions still apply.

Inside, the POCO X8 is powered by the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 Mobile Platform, built on a 4nm process. The idea here isn’t necessarily to chase flagship-level performance. Instead, POCO is focusing on the things most people actually do every day. Opening apps, jumping between them, multitasking and playing games.

The phone also runs Xiaomi HyperOS 3, with features including Xiaomi HyperIsland and built-in Google Gemini. There’s also Xiaomi Offline Communication, which is designed to let compatible devices communicate even without network coverage, plus up to a 300% volume boost for louder audio.

On the camera side, the POCO X8 gets a 50MP main camera with OIS and EIS, paired with a 16MP selfie camera. There’s also Dual Video, allowing you to record using the front and rear cameras at the same time. And if your photos don’t come out perfect the first time, POCO has packed in a bunch of AI editing tools, including AI Glare Removal, AI Erase Pro, AI Image Expansion, AI Image Enhancement and AI Beautify. Basically, take the photo first. Fix it later.

The POCO X8 is available in White, Black and Orange. From 9 September, it will be available through mi.com and POCO’s official stores on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop. Pricing starts at:
8GB + 256GB – RM1,499
12GB + 256GB – RM1,699

But during the promotional period, prices drop to RM1,299 and RM1,499, respectively.

What I find interesting about the POCO X8 isn’t just the massive battery. It’s the fact that POCO seems to be building the phone around a very simple idea, make it last. Longer battery life. Faster charging. Better battery longevity. A big, bright display. Plenty of durability. It’s not trying to be the flashiest phone in the room. It’s trying to be the phone that doesn’t give you a reason to reach for your charger. And honestly? That’s something I can get behind.
