One year on, the All-New Proton X50 is still ruling the SUV game. The King continues its reign.
When the All-New Proton X50 arrived in July 2025, expectations were sky-high. Its predecessor had already transformed Malaysia’s B-segment SUV scene, raising the bar with a mix of bold design, strong performance, smart technology and safety. Fast-forward 12 months, and the numbers tell the story, a very respectable numbers of 32,254 units sold in its first year.

5 REASONS WHY THE PROTON X50 STILL WEARS THE MALAYSIA’S NO. 1 SUV CROWN.
1. It transformed the segment and still leads it.
Not many cars can claim to have reshaped an entire segment, but the Proton X50 is one of them. Since its debut in 2020, it has raised the bar for what Malaysians expect from a compact SUV. Five years on, the competition is tougher than ever but the X50 remains the benchmark. One year after the All-New X50 arrived, Malaysian drivers are still choosing it, proving that true icons don’t follow trends, they set them.
2. Not Just a Car. A Part of Life.
Since 2020, nearly 175,000 Proton X50s have hit the roads worldwide, each with its own story. For some, it was their first car. For others, it became part of a new chapter, from growing families to new careers and adventures. And look at the X50 community today. From Facebook and Instagram to TikTok and XiaoHongShu, owners are constantly sharing their drives, mods, road trips and experiences. That’s what stands out to me most, the X50 didn’t just sell cars it built a community.

3. The numbers speak for themselves.
The All-New Proton X50 moved 32,254 units in its first year. Line them up bumper-to-bumper and they’d stretch for around 132km, roughly the distance from Kuala Lumpur to Melaka. Even more mind-blowing? Based on 20,000km of annual driving per car, that’s over 603 million kilometres collectively. Enough to circle the Earth more than 15,000 times.
4. Innovation is great, safety makes it better.
Over the years, it has continued to evolve with technology made for today’s drivers. From PROTON’s first three-cylinder turbo engine to the latest four-cylinder powertrain, and even the localised “Hi PROTON” voice command system featuring Aisyah, the X50 keeps bringing something new to the table. But for me, the real highlight is how technology and safety work together. With Level 2 ADAS and a 5-Star ASEAN NCAP safety rating, the X50 is designed to give drivers and families extra confidence on every journey. And that’s what makes the X50 interesting, it’s not just about adding more tech. It’s about making every drive smarter, safer and more enjoyable.
5. The facts say it all. The X50 Is still a favourite.
The All-New Proton X50 clearly isn’t aimed at just one type of driver. With an average owner age of 36, it’s attracting Malaysians across different lifestyles and generations. And Malaysians are getting bolder with their colour choices too. Snow White leads with 31%, followed by Teal Bayou Green at 24% and Armour Silver at 18%. But for me, the bigger picture is what really matters. Strong performance, smart technology, advanced safety and everyday practicality all packed into one SUV. That’s why the X50 continues to stand out. Built for Malaysians, shaped around how Malaysians drive, and trusted by more Malaysians every year.
